After years of developing evangelistic websites and tracking response, Global Media Outreach has developed the following "Guidelines for Online evangelism" when you think about putting a gospel message on your blog, website, Facebook page, etc.
Keep the message simple. Your gospel presentation should not take up more than one page on your website. If you feel more material is needed, add some links to other pages at the end.
Share part of your story. If Jesus has changed your life, share how and why you want to share that message with others.
Don't use jargon. Given that your audience for an online gospel message is non-Christian, make sure the language you use is up-to-date and not church specific. Have someone outside the church read your message and ask for feedback. You could actually use pre-written gospel messages rather than try to re-invent the wheel.
Give the people that respond a place to go. Use a web program (there are some free and very low cost ones) to track who sees the message and provide a form to get information and begin an email dialogue. The most important thing is TIMELY RESPONSE. Nothing will lose your audience faster than not responding to the emails that come in. Need someone to respond for you? Our gospel widget will do all of that for you.
Don't leave your audience hanging. Once someone has committed their life to Christ, make sure you have a strong discipleship program in place that includes emailing materials on a regular basis. The material could be devotionals, words of encouragement of Bible studies and even excerpts from weekly sermons. Doing this on your own? Add a link to discipleship websites such as http://www.looktojesus.com/ and www.iChristianLife.com.
